Historian, arts' critic and columnist, Jean-Louis Pradel has taught humanities and the contemporary art history since 1976 at the National School of Decorative Arts, where he has also led since then « The Workshop/meetings ».

« ...For thirty-five years, the weekly meetings of the Workshop/meetings are perfect for those, creators, researchers or authors from various backgrounds, who give shape and meaning to the time they were living in. During these informal sessions, on Thursday nights, these friendly guests went to the School to get to know the students and share with them some aspects of their research, show how their drawings and paintings have progressed over time, explain the important milestones in their professional career and their views on the latest changes in their artistic fields. ....
... In 1988, shortly before Pierre Cabanne quitted his job at the School, the Workshop/meetings team welcomed a new member, Olivier Kurzer. When Arman came to the School, he was the one who decided to shoot the session with the video equipment and students of the video section. Since then, he carefully preserved the memory of these sessions through images and sound. Those videos successfully document the adventure of the workshop/meetings.. It is in these countless recordings, available in the library of the School and widely consulted by students, that we have drawn to capture the essence of this anthology ...
... The choice was made, the documentation gathered: all that was left to do was a challenging work as an author. With self-sacrifice and modesty, this work had to respect the expressions of a spontaneous orality while restoring the intellectual coherence of the speeches of the speakers while preserving the singularity of each session. Roxane Hodes, an art journalist and external auditor of numerous Worshops/meetings, took up this challenge with true professionalism, undertaking a patient and scrupulous task of writing... »

FULL-LENGTH VIDEO OF THE WORKSHOP/MEETINGS, 27th March 1997

« The Thirties in Europe. The threatening Time 1929-1939 » exhibition, held at the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris from February 20th to May 25th, 1997, was the occasion for Boris Taslitzky and Serge Fauchereau, invited by Jean-Louis Pradel, to evoke this important time, both for art and men history.
Boris Taslitzky taught drawing at the National School of Decorative Arts from 1971 to 1980 and chaired the commission which created the Workshop/meetings in 1975.
Serge Fauchereau is a writer, poet and art critic. As a professor, scientific advisor and curator of major exhibitions for the Center Pompidou, he has published more than forty works, including numerous artists' monographs.
